Cospicua Short Play Festival 2026 Announces First Phase Results

The Cospicua Short Play Festival 2026 has revealed the seven productions selected to advance to the festival's final stage, following the completion of the first phase of judging.

The Cospicua Short Play Festival 2026 has revealed the seven productions selected to advance to the festival's final stage, following the completion of the first phase of judging.

The selected plays are:

  • Seqer – written by Chiara Hyzler, translated by Simone Spiteri
  • Gwardjani Siguri – written by Karl Schembri
  • Ħu Biljett – written by Jurgen Ciantar
  • Going Once – written by Maya Micallef Engerer
  • Bla Ismijiet, Bla Dispjaċir – written by Nathan Vella
  • Telefonata – written by Gilbert Mallia
  • Paper Wings – written by Kim Woods

The scripts were chosen by a distinguished jury comprising Alan Fenech, Kim Dalli and Joe Pace, all respected figures in Malta's theatre scene.

Festival organisers congratulated the selected playwrights while thanking all the authors who submitted their work.

The Cospicua Short Play Festival 2026 will take place on 18 and 19 September 2026. Recognised as the Best Community Project – Arts Award 2025, the festival continues to provide a platform for emerging and established playwrights to showcase original works to local audiences.
